New railroad underpass planned in Grand Park

More Grand Park projects are in the works! A couple blogs ago we discussed our plans to expand Highway 40 near Grand Park. Now we’re pleased to report Grand Park is currently working with the towns of Winter Park and Fraser, as well as the Union-Pacific Railroad, to create a new railroad “grade-separated crossing” (e.g. underpass) in the Grand Park community.

Grand Park owns land on both sides of the railroad, which runs roughly parallel to Highway 40, intersecting Grand Park from north to south.

The railroad underpass has actually been planned for several years now. After multiple attempts and project redesigns, we can finally see a light at the end of the proverbial railroad tunnel! Theoretical structure and cost estimates have been approved, and the project design drawings are currently under review by the towns of Winter Park and Fraser and the Union Pacific Railroad.

The underpass will eventually replace the “at-grade” railroad crossing on King’s Crossing Road in Winter Park. A grade-separated underpass crossing will be safer for both vehicles and pedestrians, and will also allow for better response times from emergency services.

And of course, the new railroad crossing will further integrate Grand Park as our community grows, allowing better access to the areas of Grand Park on both sides of the tracks. It’s all part of our grander plan for Grand Park to be the best real estate in the Winter Park area, as well as one of the finest mountain communities in all of the Colorado Rockies!
