Winter Fun Near Grand Park

We all have that friend who doesn’t get the thrill of the mountain. They don’t understand the winter sports world. They don’t ski. They don’t snowboard. They don’t want to try.

So what do you do then they visit you in Grand Park next to the ski haven Winter Park Resort? Here’s what we would recommend doing:

Go Tubing at Colorado Adventure Park:

Colorado Adventure Park is the fastest, newest, and largest adventure park in Grand County Colorado. Bundle up and head to Fraser to begin a day of thrills, laughter, and fun! Colorado Adventure Park offers free WIFI inside the warming hut, as well as a fully stocked concession stand serving beer, wine, s’mores kits, and more! After you’re done, take in the views around the outdoor fire pit.

Take a Hike:

That’s right, take a hike. Hiking can be a great way to explore the Colorado Rockies…even in the winter! Grab your snow boots, layer up, and bring a pack with water, snacks, fully charged cell phones, a light, and if you really want to be safe, fire starter, and head out. We’d recommend checking out the trails around Grand Park, the Fraser River Trail, or the St. Louis Creek area.

Go Skating:

The Fraser Valley Sports Complex, locally known as “The IceBox” offers open skate, stick and puck, and family stick and puck at select times throughout the week. Skates are available to rent. If skating isn’t really your thing, head to The IceBox to watch a hockey game. Call for the schedule.

Head to the Grand Park Community Rec. Center:

If you’re looking for indoor fun, head to the Grand Park Community Recreation Center to swim, sauna, rock climb, or work out.

The Foundry Cinema and Bowl:

Neighboring Grand Park is one of the coolest bowling alleys, bars, and movie theaters in Colorado! The Foundry Cinema and Bowl offers visitors the chance to bowl, watch a movie, enjoy a delicious brick-oven pizza, grab a drink from the full-service bar, catch the games, and even play a game of pool or shuffleboard.

Happy Hour at Home:

Have happy hour at home. Order takeout and grab a six-pack or a bottle of wine from IceBox Liquors, start a cozy fire, and spend the evening catching up. After all, that’s why they are visiting you.

Yes, entertaining a friend who doesn’t enjoy skiing or boarding can be a bit more difficult. Hang in there. Take our suggestions, and know that the mountains will still be here to enjoy after they’ve left.
